MOGA: Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Capt Amarinder Singh today lashed out at the Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal for threatening discrimination with the people of Moga if they voted for Congress. He said, it was simple blackmail threatened by a defeated mind.
He pointed out, Badal was saying that Joginderpal Jain deserted Congress to join the Akali Dal for Moga’s development and now they must vote for him in case they wanted the development in the area. He asked Badal whether by saying so he meant that only those constituencies will have development which had Akali MLAs.
Addressing public meetings at different villages including Salina, Chotian Khurd, Sosan, and Kora Kalan falling in the Moga assembly segment, in support of the party candidate Vijay Sathi, Capt Amarinder said, it was unbecoming of a five time Chief Minister to tell people that they should only vote for the ruling party to ensure development.
“This amounts to total blackmail by using threat of discrimination that if you don’t vote for us, there will be no development in your area”, he pointed out, while adding, there can be no worst example of political blackmail than this.
The PCC Chief asserted that this only betrayed Badal’s double standards. “On the one hand he always cries wolf by levelling baseless allegations against the centre that it was discriminating with Punjab, while actually he was himself discriminating with all those assembly segments which did not have Akali MLAs”, Capt Amarinder said, while adding that he was using the threat of discrimination in Moga byelection also.
The former Chief Minister said, none of the tactics of the Badals was going to work this time as the mood in both urban and rural areas was totally against the ruling Akali Dal and Joginderpal Jain for his political betrayal. He said, the governments are bound to carry out equitable development otherwise these cease to exist.
Capt Amarinder had a dig at the Akalis particularly the Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and his Deputy Chief Minister son Sukhbir Badal for asking votes for the same person whom they resolved and promised to put in jail only a year ago. “This is desperate political opportunism which has no parallels”, he remarked.
Among others present on the occasion included the party candidate Vijay Sathi, Darshan Brar, Jeet Mohinder Sidhu, Rana Sodhi, Vikram Chaudhary, Rana Gurjeet, Jagjivanpal Singh Gill, Amarinder Libra, Milkait Singh Birmi, Gurcharan Singh Boparai, Jabir Singh Dimpa, Harpartap Ajnala, Sonu Dhesi, Gurmail Pehalwan and others.
