NANGAL: Activist of youth Congress members led by Muncipal councillor Paramjit Singh Pamma today held a protest dharna outside the office of Municipal Council Nangal to protest against the imposition of property tax in the town.
While addressing the protestors Pamma said that it was an injustice with the common man in the state to levy a tax five times more than what was being charged in national capital of Delhi.
He said that there was no need to impose property tax on the people of Nangal,who were mostly employees,retirees and small traders .Moreover, the Municipal Council was one of the richest Councils of the state with a budget of Rs.75 crores.
He demanded that the government must withdraw its decision to impose Property Tax failing which the congress would launch an agitation over the issue.
Meanwhile,Nangal Municipal council has passed the budget of Rs 75,75,43,000 for the year 2013-14 during its meeting held in Nangal today.The meeting was chaired by Council president Rajesh Chaudhary. The council will spend Rs 44 crore on development works in town this year.
The total income of the civic body during next year was projected as Rs 41.70 crores while the balance sheet of the current fiscal showed a balance of Rs 35 crore in hand of the civic body.
The main source of income for the council will remain octroi on electricity and VAT which was targeted at Rs 35 crore and 50 lakh. From property tax proposed to be imposed this year the council was expecting collection of Rs 1.2 crore.
This year Rs 43,96,00000 will be spent on development works in the town while Rs 13,20,83,000 were ear4marked for salary bill. Rs 2,31,92,000 were earmarked for creating new posts in the Council.
