Anandpur Sahib : The main Opposition Congress party will launch a ‘morcha’ from Ropar against the ‘anti-people’ policies of the Akalis to “expose their misdeeds”
Announcing this while addressing a political conference on Hola Mohalla here on Wednesday, newly-appointed Punjab Congress president Partap Singh Bajwa said a meeting of the PPCC has been called on April 2 to chalk out plans for the agitation programme.
Alleging that the Punjab government had failed on all fronts and the “Congress as a sincere Opposition will raise these issues on the public platform”, Bajwa called upon the party workers to get ready for the Lok Sabha polls.
He also called upon the workers to get ready for an offensive against the ‘misrule’ of Akalis.
“Congress would take the Akalis by their horns,” he thundered, while telling the party workers that the ‘sacrifices’ made by them so far would not go “waste”.
“I will lead the party workers from the front and will take the first bullet if the time comes for sacrifice”, he asserted, adding that the detailed programme of agitation would be announced soon.
Bajwa alleged that the Akalis had pushed Punjab into a state of ‘anarchy.’ “Congress party would take on Akalis head-on in the panchayat elections scheduled in May,” he declared, while asking the workers to revive their fighting spirit.
The PPCC chief said Punjab was passing through the “saddest” state of affairs. “There is no rule of law, human rights and liberty of the common man are curtailed, and the family of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal has only one agenda to loot the people of state,” he alleged.
He stated, “Sukhbir Singh Badal has an uncanny greed for wealth. The Badal and Majithia families have monopolised the business of mines, transport, liquor, cable network and are also venturing into real estate. On the other hand, they are running an illegal drug trade to spoil the youth of Punjab.”
Bajwa said the Badal government had burdened the people with heavy taxes like Aurangzeb. “The Badal government has imposed property tax and unprecedented stamp duty on both the urban and rural population. Badal, who claimed to be a well-wisher of farmers, has imposed 28 per cent VAT on diesel, which is the highest in the country,” he stated.
