DHURI (SANGRUR): Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee general secretary and Dhuri MLA Arvind Khanna on Wednesday said the people of Punjab were bearing the brunt of the wrong policies and apathetic attitude of SAD-BJP alliance government in the state.

Addressing a gathering during his visit to different villages in Dhuri including Pedhani, Kaleran and Balian, Khanna said the law and order situation in the state had descended to the lowest level in the recent years. The people today feel afraid to venture out of their homes as a certain degree of suspicion has crept into their belief in the ability of the government to protect its people, he remarked.

He added that this fear among the people was widespread as they had lost trust in the police because even the policemen were becoming victims of rowdiness unleashed by anti-social elements who are being given a free run in the state.

Khanna who is also the chairman of NGO Umeed Foundation which works in the rural areas of the district to provide health, education and employment facilities to the poor and needy, said that while the people in the state were reeling under hardships and disappointments, the Akali leaders rushed to the beaches of Goa on a 'fun trip' to have a gala time there.

The MLA said he was committed to fulfilling all the promises he and his NGO Umeed Foundation had made to the people. “We have fulfilled most of the assurances we had given to you and the remaining promises will also be fulfilled soon,” he told the people. "The doors of my home and those of Umeed Foundation are always open to you. It is my constant endeavour to serve each one of you with sincerity and devotion," he said.
