Sukhbir spends 74 % funds on wife Harsimrat’s constituency

CHANDIGARH: Like his father and Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal who spent over 90 per cent of his discretionary funds in his home turf Muktsar alone, Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal seems to be following his trail.

Sukhbir has spent all his discretionary funds in two district only, 74 per cent has been spent on Bathinda, from where his wife Harsimrat Kaur Badal is a sitting MP. Around 23 per cent has been spent in his home district Muktsar.

The information has been procured by Human Empowerment League Punjab (HELP) activist Parvinder Singh Kitna under RTI activist.Earlier, information procured by Kitna had revealed that of Rs 10 crore kept under the discretionary fund of the Chief Minister for 2012-13, Rs 9.3 crore were spent majorly on Muktsar.

The reply by state government reveals that in 2010-11 and 2011-12, Sukhbir Badal spent Rs 7.37 crore out of Rs 10 crore under his discretionary fund. In 2011-12, out of Rs 5-crore he spent Rs 1.15 crore in Muktsar while in 2012-13, Rs 3 crore was available with Sukhbir of which he spent Rs 52 lakh in Bathinda till March 14.

He also gave Rs 10 lakh in a village in Nawanshahr.

During last tenure of SAD-BJP government, Parkash Singh Badal had used 70 per cent is his discretionary funds in his home-turf which went up to 90 per cent in 2011-12.
