JALANDHAR: Punjab Congress will soon meet state Governor Shiv Raj V. Patil over the issue of unprecedented hike in the power tariff by the state government and submit a memorandum to him to defer hike.
This was stated here this morning at a hurriedly convened media conference at a residence of a senior party worker at Basti Baba Khel by the PPCC chief Pratap Singh Bajwa. He said that the people of the state had already been reeling under the heavy dose of taxes levied by the state government under the garb of good governance by SAD led SAD-BJP government headed by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal who claims himself to be the sole well wisher of the people of the state.
He said that the hike in power tariff would ruin the industry of the state which was already in the migrating process due to wrong industrial policy of the state. He said that if needed so the party would not hesitate to challenge the decision of the Punjab State Regulatory Commission in the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
He sought a probe by an independent agency in the distribution of a sum of Rs.1620 crore during sangat darshan programmes held under the headship of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal during the period from 2007 to 2012 for which the Comptroller & Auditor General of India had slammed the state government also for not keeping any account of the funds so distributed in the sangat darshan progrmmes.
Bajwa said that it was ridiculous to note that on the one hand Badals were asking SAD cadres to get them prepared for the Lok Sabha elections and on the other hand had been organizing Vichar Manthan conclaves at Goa beaches, the most expensive tourist spot of the country with the sole aim of enjoyment besides to inculcate the idea of Casinos, a most modern and civilized methodology of gambling to be started in Punjab to put the people in open gambling.
