Cong to approach HC, EC, Governor on polls

Chandigarh : The Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) has decided to approach the Punjab and Haryana High Court, State Election Commission (EC) and Governor of Punjab to seek their immediate intervention in ensuring the conduct of free and fair elections to the village panchayats, block samitis and zila parishads, scheduled next month, in the state.
A decision to this effect was taken at a special meeting of the party leaders with the legal experts held at Punjab Congress Bhavan in Sector 15 here, on Monday evening.
Revealing the outcome of the meeting, the PPCC president Partap Singh Bajwa said that decision was taken after brainstorming session with Congress leaders and legal luminaries. “The PPCC will approach the concerned authorities for e-filing of the nomination papers by candidates to prevent en-mass cancellations, to draft uniform policy for delimitation of wards and rotational reservation of wards for panchayat elections,” he said. Bajwa said that all leaders present at the meeting expressed their views and took unanimous decision to seek legal and administrative remedy for smooth conduct of elections. He said, “Their past experience has shown that SAD-BJP government was hell bent to influence the Panchayat polls by use of illegal means. He said that Congress would not allow it this time.”
Those, who attended the meeting included the CLP Leader Sunil Jakharr, Lal Singh, Charanjit Singh Channi and Tarlochan Singh Soond (both PPCC vice presidents), Jagmohan Singh Kang, Arvind Khanna, Gurpreet Kangar, Vikram Bajwa, Kushaldeep Dhillon, Sadhu Singh Dharamsot, Rajanbir Singh, Gurkirat Singh Kotli, Hira Sodhi, Balbir Singh Sidhu, Harminder Singh Gill, Parminder Singh Pinki, Gurchet Singh Bhullar and Rana KP Singh.
