New Delhi : A Punjab Congress delegation today called on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and demanded that the Union Government should announce a bonus of Rs 200 per quintal over and above the already announced minimum support price (MSP) for wheat.
A deputation of Congress MPs led by Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Partap Singh Bajwa today called on the Prime Minister in Delhi and submitted a memorandum.
Among other with him were Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Manish Tewari, Mohinder Singh Kaypee, Santosh Chaudhary, Ravneet Singh Bittu, Sukhdev Singh Libra and Vijay Inder Singla
Bajwa said there would be a record production of 150 lakh tonnes of wheat. He said the Centre had announced Rs 1,350 as MSP, "which was inadequate and did not even cover the cost of production that comes around Rs 1,700 per quintal".
He told the Prime Minister that the working group on agriculture production headed by Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda had recommended that the MSP should be 50 per cent more than the cost of cultivation.
