CHANDIGARH: Former Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh today condemned the brutal and murderous assault on Indian national Sarabjit Singh in Kot Lakhpat jail in Pakistan on Friday. He said, this was quite inhuman to treat someone in such a barbaric manner with the sole motive to kill him.

Expressing his sympathies with Sarabjit’s wife, daughters and sister, Capt Amarinder appealed to the government of India to ensure that his life is saved at all costs even if it meant getting him shifted out ofPakistan for proper treatment.

In a statement issued here today, the former Punjab Chief Minister said, just because Sarabjit is on death row and his mercy petitions have been rejected does not provide anybody the licence to make such abrutal attempt on his life. “This betrays a brutal and barbarian mindset of the people who have assaulted him”, he observed, while hoping Sarabjit recovers from coma at the earliest.

Capt Amarinder wanted that the government of India lodge a strong protest with the Pakistan government over this incident, besides making proper arrangements for the family members to visit him there and be his side during the time of his treatment.

He hoped that the government of Pakistan and the federal government of Punjab there takes serious note of the issue and ensures the safety of other Indian prisoners lodged there. He pointed out, such incidentsonly hurt the sensitivities of the people and lead to tensions when everybody on the both sides wants peace and harmony to prevail.
