Chandigarh : The Punjab and Haryana governments and the Chandigarh Administration, on Wednesday, informed the Punjab and Haryana High Court that the process of vacating all the government houses occupied unauthorisedly would be completed by June 15 and the court order would be complied with.
Counsel for Punjab government informed a Division Bench Comprising Acting Chief Justice Jasbir Singh and Justice Rakesh Kumar Jain that the notices of eviction to all those who have illegally occupied the government houses had been issued and the eviction proceeding started.
He stated that eviction proceedings against senior Congress leader Rajinder Kaur Bhattal were also on. He said the process of eviction would be completed by June 15.
Similarly, the counsel for Haryana told the court that those, including MP Savitri Jindal and former minister O P Jain and others, who have unauthorisedly occupied the government houses have vacated these and paid the penalty rent.
Likewise, the Chandigarh Administration counsel stated before the Bench that the process to evict the unauthorised occupants of houses would be completed by mid-June.
He informed the court that as many as 3,654 poor persons who have been made available houses on cheaper rates have sold these. The counsel stated that the houses have been sold on general power of attorney of delivery of possession. He said the Administration was working on a policy to combat this problem
