EVEN DURING HECTIC SCHEDULE IN ZP POLLS, TWEETS REGULARLY ON NATIONAL POLITICS
Feet in Ludhiana and mind in Delhi, that’s union minister of state (independent charge) for information and broadcasting Manish Tewari these days.
Even when campaigning in the district’s villages for his party’s candidates in the zila parishad and block samiti elections coming up on May 19, the union minister of state (independent charge) for information and broadcasting never forgets to tweet on what’s happening in national politics.
During the campaign on Thursday, he tweeted twice, mocking the opposition and all other critics of the Bharat Nirman advertisement campaign. He asked them why they were silent on Jayalalitha’s jacket-ad blitz in the morning newspapers.
“Wonder why friends never ask or want to know how much the BJP state govts pay celebrities to endorse state campaigns,” he messaged on Twitter from a rally near Gill village.
“Opposition bristles at UPA’s telling the India story but finds no problem with full-page ad jackets of a state government,” he tweeted again.
The change of ambience from air-conditioned television studios to election platforms, heat, and dust lanes seems to have bothered him little. “Our strength lies in our supporters,” he said. On Wednesday, he addressed 14 election meetings in as many villages in the Jagraon assembly segment, and on Thursday, he addressed another 16 in the Gill assembly segment. On Friday, he has a similar packed schedule in Akalistronghold Dakha.
At 6am, he begins his day with a 40-minute jog inside Guru Nanak Stadium here. In his meetings, he focuses his attack on the Akalis and their economic policies and law and order management.
“You sent me to Parliament,” he tells voters, “and now pose the same faith in my party.”
