CHANDIGARH: The Punjab and Haryana high court has granted three days’ time to the Punjab government to put up all circular, instructions and rules pertaining to reservation and rotation of sarpanches’ seats on the Punjab state election commission’s official website.
The directions were issued during resumed hearing of a public interest litigation filed by Hoshiarpur resident Parvinder Singh Kittna, seeking transparency in reservation and rotation of the sarpanch’s post in Punjab.
Arguing for the petitioner, advocate HC Arora informed the court that if the state government put all details on the website, it would eliminate most of the confusion and problems created under the veil of secrecy maintained by the state government over such public documents.
As per the earlier directions, Punjab’s counsel tried to submit a bunch of papers to the court regarding various circulars and instructions on the subject, but the court refused to accept the papers and directed to submit the documents on record in a formal manner.
The case would now come up for hearing on May 20.
