AMRITSAR: Sister of Indian prisoner Sarabjit Singh, Dalbir Kaur reiterated her statement that Pakistan Human Rights activist Ansar Burney demanded Rs 25 crore for her brother’s release.
Kaur had Thursday alleged that Burney was a fraud and had demanded Rs 25 crore for Sarabjit’s release.
She said Burney during his India visit met her at a Delhi hotel where he demanded the money from her. Kaur said three more persons were present when Burney asked for money.
"I could not pay money as I am poor. Burney told me to pay at least Rs 2 crore. He had told me that my brother will be released by evening, if I give him money in the morning," Kaur alleged.
Burney had been pleading clemency for Sarabjit for the past many years.
Refuting Kaur’s allegation Burney had tweeted, “I was shocked to hear nonsense & false accusation by Dalbeer Kaur, sister of Sarbajit Singh, I was the one who helped her every time.”
“I am very surprised rather shocked that she is politicizing the matter which was purely treated as matter of human rights by me,” he said.
Sarabjit Singh passed away at Pakistan’s Jinnah Hospital where he was being treated after fatal attack allegedly by fellow prisoners at Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat Jail.
He was cremated yesterday with full state honours.
Punjab assembly declared Sarabjit ‘national martyr’ and declared three-day state mourning Friday.
