Chandigarh : Former Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh, while expressing grief over the tragic death of Sarabjit Singh in a Lahore hospital, on Thursday said it was an officially decreed cold-blooded murder of the Indian prisoner. “Just because he had been sentenced to death did not provide anyone the licence to lynch him and Government of Pakistan failed in its duty to protect him”, he said in a strongly worded statement.

Capt Amarinder said, “It is more than clear that the brutal attack on Sarabjit was properly planned and executed after having been authorised. It is an authorised cold-blooded murder which must be condemned by one and all.”

Opining that even the condemned prisoners are entitled to protection, he said it reflected poorly not only on Pakistan but its judiciary as well.

Don’t politicise death, says Preneet

New Delhi: The government had been proactive and never missed an opportunity to take up Sarabjit Singh’s case, Minister of State for External Affairs Preneet Kaur said on Thursday, while stressing that this was not the time to “politicise the issue”. “For all those who are saying that (external affairs) ministry and the government have not been proactive enough, it is totally wrong. We have never lost an opportunity or time to take up Sarabjit’s case with the Pakistan government,” she said.
