CHANDIGARH: Condemning politically motivated murder of Sukhraj Singh Block President Youth Congress Patti and the murderous attack on Congress MLA Rana Gurmeet Sodhi, Punjab Congress has demanded independent judicial probe into both the incidents.
Congress spokesperson Sukhpal Singh Khaira said, “While Punjab is burning with total collapse of law and order, the CM and his henchmen are busy trying to reap political dividends out of a sensitive issue like 1984 riots in Delhi.”
“As we are all aware, two sensational incidents of political nature have taken place during the last 48 hours in Punjab, that deserve uttermost government attention. The dastardly killing of a Youth Congress leader Sukhraj Singh by his political rivals and Akali goons at Patti, District Taran-Taran have shaken all right thinking citizens, similarly the armed murderous attack on MLA Rana Sodhi by his political foes indicate to complete ‘Jungle Raj’, breakdown of the constitution and the rule of law in Punjab. These heinous crimes are direct fallout of gross politicization of the police in Punjab by the Akali govt. The Badals are using the police force like a private militia to settle personal scores. Police stations have been hijacked by the ‘Jathedar’s’ who call the shots and rule the roost in Punjab,” Khaira pointed.
The former Bholath MLA cited the recent killings of three ASIs in uniform by ‘Akali goondas’, breaking of AIG SS Mand’s leg by Sunny Johar at Ludhiana, saying, “Akalis are emboldened, power drunk and consider themselves above the law. It is also saddening to note that while the CM and his coterie are busy seeking justice for the riot victims in Delhi, Punjab is burning back home with brutal killings and heinous crimes daily.”
He said SAD-BJP government has become utterly insensitive to hue and cry of people, leaders of opposition protested for two days at Ferozepur under Punjab Congress president Partap Singh Bajwa but to no avail, no culprit has been arrested for attack on MLA.Khaira demanded thorough independent judicial inquiry or a CBI probe saying he had no faith in Punjab police.He warned that Congress will gherao police stations and intensify struggle under Bajwa if justice is not rendered.
