Chandigarh : Former chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh on Saturday condemned the “intimidation” of about 150 Congress workers in Mann village, falling within the Chief Minister’s Assembly constituency of Lambi, saying that “this all was done at the behest of the Chief Minister only”.

This, he added, has led to the entire village wearing a “deserted look” as the Congress workers “fearing” arrest had escaped to safety.

In a statement, Capt Amarinder said, “The incident has exploded the myth that Parkash Singh Badal was not vindictive.” He pointed out, “It is impossible to believe that whatever was happening in the village was not being done at the behest of the Chief Minister himself as he is not prepared to accept that people could oppose him in his own constituency, which he considers to be his sole fiefdom.”

The former chief minister said the Congress workers were simply protesting against the “booth-capturing by Akali workers” when they were “attacked and their vehicles set on fire”.

Instead of booking the Akalis, Capt Amarinder said the police “registered false cases against the Congress workers”.

Cong delegation to visit village
CHANDIGARH: The PPCC president announced to lead a delegation of party MPs and MLAs to Manna village on May 27. “The entire village residents have deserted their homes and the police are camping there round-the-clock. The relatives of local residents, living in faraway villages, are being picked up and terrorised,” he alleged.

Cong at its old game, instigating violence’
Chandigarh : The ruling Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Saturday charged Punjab Congress president Partap Singh Bajwa and former Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh of “vitiating” atmosphere in the peaceful state and “instigating” violence just to “cover up their major failures” in the recently concluded Zila Parishad and Block Samiti elections.

In a statement issued here, the SAD treasurer and joint secretary NK Sharma said what happened in village Mann in Lambi was an “engineered violence” by the Congress goons as they wanted to get elections postponed “fearing total decimation” and focus the attention on violence rather than their “abject failure”.

“In the recent past, Amarinder had been giving the warnings of unleashing a reign of terror on Akali workers and Bajwa had photocopied his strategy to crush the peaceful and democratic Akali workers,” the SAD leader pointed out.
