PATHANKOT: The name of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee frequently figured in the speech of Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi he delivered at BJP’s Madhopur rally held to pay tributes to Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukharjee. He said that during the regime of Vajpayee, employment rate in the country had touched a magic high whereas during the ten years rule of the UPA this rate had touched lowest of its rate.
He also accounted the contribution of the former Prime Minister for improving relations with the neighbouring country Pakistan.
But he did not mention the name of senior party leaders Lal Krishan Advani, Sushma Swaraj and Party president Raj Nath Singh even a single time in his nearly forty minute speech. Advani is the mentor of the Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukharjee’s statue project which was installed three years back in 2010.
The political dictum that no one is friend or foe in politics came true today when Modi praised Vajpayee for his vision for the youths of India on the contrast that Vajpayee had advised Modi to tender resignation following Gujarat riots in 2002 and at that time it was Advani who came in support of Modi and persuaded Vajpayee not to go on his way. Vajpayee had become a role model for Modi soon after Advani had opposed his elevation as chairman of the election campaign committee of the BJP.
Modi termed Shanta Kumar, former Himachal Pradesh chief minister and Balramji Dass Tondon, a veteran BJP leader as his political guides from whom he learnt the ABC of politics.
