MOGA: Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Partap Singh Bajwa Monday criticised ruling SAD-BJP government for harassing the Congress workers during filing of nomination papers for panchayat poll.

The state will witness panchayat elections on July 3.

Bajwa alleged that district police acting under pressure of ruling Akali Dal leadership had falsely implicated Sukhjit Singh Kaka and two other Congress workers.

Kaka had contested the Punjab assembly elections in 2012 and lost to Akali MLA Tota Singh at Dharamkot assembly segment.

The three were booked under section 295 IPC and Sections 3-4 of Prevention of Atrocities Act on Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes Act.

A clash had taken place between Congress faction led by Kaka Lohgarh and Akali supporters outside office of returning officer when Akali candidate had tried to file nomination papers after the scheduled time.

No arrests have been made so far, said the investigation officer.

Bajwa, who was in Moga, said the ruling alliance had assured that there will be no vendetta politics against Congress workers but the cases registered against Kaka and others indicate that SAD-BJP is continuing its policy of falsely implicating the Congress workers at grassroot level.
