TARN TARAN: The police assault victim in a startling revelation Tuesday alleged that Sub-Inspector (SI) Gurmeet Singh offered Rs 20 lakh in cash and a job in police to her cousin and main witness Jagjit Singh to turn hostile before the inquiry officer.
Harbinder Kaur presented audio conversations that purportedly took place between the SI and her cousin.
The audio conversation shows that Gurmeet offered a job in Punjab police to Jagjit Singh, who videographed the cops thrashing the victim, if he was able to strike a compromise with the Harbinder and family.
The audio conversation shows the SI advising Jagjit to give a statement before Jalandhar divisional commissioner SR Ladhar that the “police were trying to stop a fight in the family outside the marriage palace, however, in the video it appeared as if the cops were thrashing the victim.”
In the conversation, Gurmeet also asked Jagjit to give the same statement before Inspector General (IG) and Director General of Police (DGP), saying it will help him get a constable job.
When Jagjit said his height and age did not match the criterion required for the job, the SI assured him that everything would be taken care off.
Jagjit Singh further said that he had 12 audio clips to prove that SI Gurmeet had offered him money and job to turn hostile before the inquiry officer and was ready to expose the cop in the court.
Harbinder Kaur, meanwhile, termed the inquiry conducted by Ladhar a sham.
She alleged that he had connived with the accused and had not even supplied her copy of the report, despite repeated requests.
SI Gurmeet Singh after the expose has been suspended with immediate effect.
