Dhindsa to inaugurate state-level function on Statistics Day

CHANDIGARH: Punjab Government is celebrating the National Statistics Day on June 29, 2013 on the occasion of Birthday of Prof. P.C. Mahalanobis which would be inaugurated by the Finance Minister, Parminder Singh Dhindsa.

A spokesperson of Economic Adviser’s office said that function would be held at ICSSR Auditorium, Panjab University Chandigarh at 10 am.

He said that Prof. Mahalanobis was a noted statistic scientist who established Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata. He said that Prof. Mahalanobis also played a significant role to establish Central Statistical Organization and National Sample Survey Organization. He said that quarterly news letter of the department would also be released on this occasion.

An exhibition of important statistical books of the department would also be organized and some important books of the department would be released, he added.
