Chandigarh : The Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) today demanded that a case be registered under the Punjab State Election Commission Act, 1994, against former Akali Dal minister, Sucha Singh Langah for "violating the model code of conduct and indulging in corrupt practices during campaigning" for the panchayat elections scheduled for July 3.
Addressing a press conference at the party office here, party spokesman Sukhpal Singh Khaira said there was documentary evidence showing Akali leaders asking voters at a gurdwara in Dera Baba Nanak to take a pledge to vote for the SAD.
In a joint press note by MLA Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa and former Deputy Chairman of the Planning Board RR Bhardwaj alleged that the SAD had taken it in writing from residents of Mughal Nangal village that "we have chosen Gurmeet Singh as our candidate for the post of sarpanch. We pledge to remain loyal to the SAD, whether we win or lose the elections."
