CHANDIGARH: Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President Partap Singh Bajwa today said that Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal lacked moral courage to proceed against education minister Sikandar Singh Maluka who was repeatedly embarrassing SAD-BJP government and bringing a bad name to Punjab in particular.
In a statement here today Bajwa said that Badal had adopted delaying tactics in ordering an inquiry against Maluka in the text book scam and later in the case of assault on IAS officer Kahan Singh Pannu. He said that Badal almost hushed up the book scam by ordering an inquiry by a retired judge of the choice of Maluka and demanded an inquiry by the CBI or a sitting judge of the High Court but the Chief Minister turned a deaf ear to the public outcry. He said that assault on Pannu was a result of giving long rope to Maluka.
Bajwa said that Pannu in his capacity as Director General of School Education had tried to prevent scam in the purchase of library books, science kits and practical books. He said that Pannu acted like a whistleblower and he became an eyesore for the ruling party particularly Maluka. He said that attack on Pannu at Gobind Dham was a shameful act and it was pre-planned. Bajwa said that he was shocked to see the response of Badal on the issue. He didn’t act beyond doing lip service and expressed only false notions.
Bajwa said that the inquiry set up by Badal into the book scam was not headed anywhere .It is a sham. He said that in case of attack on Pannu no FIR was registered against culprits till Thursday evening. He said that Pannu had reported the matter to Chief Minister and it was his constitutional duty to protect the honour of its officers. He said that attack on Pannu was not an internal affair of SAD-BJP but a public issue. If an IAS officer was not safe outside Punjab, how could a common citizen feel safe in Punjab? He said that SAD-BJP ministers were threatening people with impunity and that the Chief Minister had failed to perform his constitutional duties.
Bajwa reiterated his demand to sack Maluka from the government immediately and restore the faith of the people of Punjab in democracy, good governance and the rule of law.
