NEW DELHI: Putting a lid on the recent controversy generated by a letter allegedly written by him to party president Sonia Gandhi, former Punjab Chief Minister and Congress Working Committee member Capt Amarinder Singh on Monday rejected the reports of his having written any letter to the party president accusing the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Partap Singh Bajwa of having terrorist links in the past.

Reacting to reporters queries during a press conference organised under the banner of the All India Jat Maha Sabha, of which Capt Amarinder is the president, he said, he had no knowledge of any such letter since he had not written it.

The former Chief Minister hinted that he would pursue the matter and get it investigated as who was behind the entire story aimed at creating misunderstandings within the party.

He expressed surprise as how some newspapers could report about something which was not there. “The newspapers should have asked me before publishing the story whether I had written any such letter or not”, he said, while making it categorically clear that he had not written anything on that particular issue.

Capt Amarinder said, he has written so many letters to the Congress president Ms Sonia Gandhi and he keeps on briefing her about different issues. “However, nothing transpired between me and her on the particular issue reported in the newspapers”, he said.

Asked whether he believed that Bajwa had some links with the terrorists, the former Chief Minister remarked, there was no point in asking such questions since he had not written the letter and he had no reason to comment on the issue.

To another question that the ruling BJP had demanded that he provide the details about the allegations he had levelled in the letter, he expressed strong suspicion that it might be the ruling alliance particularly the Akalis who might be responsible for circulating such fictitious stories. “And Akalis are quite apt in doing all this”, he alleged.
