Moga : Congress leaders and workers staged a protest outside deputy commissioner (DC) office at Ferozpur road Moga on Thursday morning after police officials allegedly snatched certificates from winning Panches at Kaliye Wala village last night after the counting completed.
Led by former MLA and congress leader Vijay Sathi, youth congress leader Manjeet Singh Mann and other leaders, villagers staged Dharna outside DC office at around 11 am and started raising slogans against Punjab police and ruling Shiromani Akali Dal.
Congress leader Vijay Sathi, while leveling allegations said, “Presiding officer and other election staff had declared results after conducting the counting and staff distributed certificates to five elected panches Jagdev Singh, Manjeet Singh, Gurmeet Kaur, Jora Singh and Balwant Singh, all belong to congress party, but some police personnel headed by a head constable Gora Sandhu snatched the certificates forcibly and the fresh certificates were issued to losing candidates after making alteration in the record”.
“MLA Joginder Pal Jain had directed police personnel to snatch the certificates and this is a murder of democracy”, he further said. Member block samiti Kulveer Singh alleged that the police personnel also threatened the congress workers of cane charge in the condition of protest last night.
Additional deputy commissioner (ADC) Amit Kumar visited the dharna spot and requested the protesters to end their stir. ADC asked the villagers to file their complaint with the election commission in the case and assured action in the matter.
Moga SSP Surjeet Singh Garewal, when contacted, said, “None of our cops had snatched certificates but it is just an election stunt. My officers had investigated the matter and no such incident had taken place.”
