LUDHIANA: Union Information & Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari has said the UPA Government is fully committed for the upliftment of weaker and downtrodden sections of the society.
He said the Govt. has adopted a right based approach for the welfare of large section of the society. Tewari was addressing a religious gathering to celebrate the Kabir Jayanti in Ludhiana today.
He said that under the Food Security Act beneficiary will get rice, wheat and coarse grain at the rate of Rs. 3, Rs. 2, Rs. 1 respectively. Referring to the Akali criticism to the Food Security Act and describing it vote security not food security, Tewari said, it shows the mindset of the Akalis which is always against the welfare of the people.
He said, UPA has already empowered the person with various rights, which includes Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Gurantee Act, Right to Education and Right to Information.
Paying rich respect to Bhagat Kabir Ji, Tewari said the teaching of Kabir inspire us to follow the path of universal brotherhood, equality and services of the under privileged and disadvantaged people. He exhorted the audience to follow the path shown by Bhagat Kabir Ji.
On the occasion, Tewari conferred Kabir Rattan Award to Ashok Bhagat of Batala for his social services. He also presented medal to 15 meritorious students, who passed the matriculation and +2 exam with more than 80% marks.
The organizers also honored Manish Tewari with a Siropa and a sword. Those who spoke on this occasion included DCC (U) President Pawan Dewan and Ex- Chairman of Housefed K.K Bawa.
