LUDHIANA: Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari on Sunday said that the Akalis had nothing much to cheer about the outcome of the recently held Panchayat elections. “Rather these elections are ‘writing on the wall’ about imminent doom of the Akalis”, Tewari said, while addressing a public meeting organised in village Daad to felicitate the newly elected panches and sarpanches from the Congress party.

Tewari pointed out, despite the rabid abuse of official machinery and the police by way of falsely implicating the Congress workers and supporters so that they do not contest the Panchayat elections, the Congress supported candidates won at several places. He predicted a clean sweep by the Congress against the Akali-BJP in the ensuing parliamentary elections.

The Union Minister disclosed that the Right to Food Security will ensure two time food for over 80 crore Indians at minimum affordable prices. He said, some opposition parties were trying to sabotage and subvert the law before it could be enacted for petty political reasons. “Just in the apprehension that it might provide an advantage to the UPA, the opposition parties tired all the possible trick to scuttle it and hence deny the Right to Food to over 80 crore Indians”, he said, while remarking this was the politics at its worst by the opposition parties.

On the occasion Former Minister Punjab Malkit Singh Dakha, DCC (U) President Pawan Dewan, Karnail Singh Tatla, newly elected Zila Parishad Members Tanvir Singh Rania, Ranjit Singh Ghumman, Kashmir Singh Ladhowal, Paramjit Singh Ghawaddi, Gurpreet Singh Gill, Om Prakash Mansooran, Baldev Singh Dad were also present.
