PATIALA/CHANDIGARH: For the first time, People’s Party of Punjab (PPP) chief Manpreet Singh Badal has openly declared that he is ready to take on his sister-in-law Harsimrat Kaur Badal in the next Parliamentary elections from Bathinda.

Speaking to the media, Manpreet said that he was not afraid of any challenge and was prepared to face any candidate fielded by Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) in Bathinda. He also indicated that the next LS polls may be fought by his party in alliance with Congress.

He said that they had some seat-sharing understanding with the Congress during the recent Panchayat elections, which had shown good results. Therefore, he was open to a pact with the Congress party if it helped to keep SAD-BJP away from power. He, however, said that he was yet to hold formal talks with Congress leaders in this regard.

It may be mentioned here that there had been growing indications from the new president of Punjab Congress Partap Singh Bajwa of forging an alliance with secular and like-minded parties to face the ruling combine in the forthcoming General Elections. Bajwa has indicated that besides the PPP, the party may hold talks with CPI, CPM and BSP.
