NEW DELHI/CHANDIGARH: Punjab Congress chief Partap Singh Bajwa was reportedly given a dressing down by All India Congress Committee vice-president Rahul Gandhi for continued indiscipline in the state unit and his apparent inability to take all sections along.
Informed sources indicated that Rahul Gandhi summoned both Bajwa and leader of Congress Legislative Party Sunil Jakhar and told them to sink their differences and work together to pose a challenge to the ruling SAD-BJP combine in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. The meeting was attended by AICC general secretary and in-charge of Punjab Shakeel Ahmed and secretary looking after the state Harish Chaudhary.
Rahul Gandhi expressed his surprise over the fact that the agenda set by him for the Punjab Congress was not being followed and so far nothing had been done to launch a campaign against unemployment by enlisting unemployed youth in the state. The state Congress unit has been given a target of enlisting 50000 unemployed youth during the month of August. He also directed them to launch an awareness campaign about the Food Security Bill.
In another important development, Rahul Gandhi asked Bajwa to take Jakhar into confidence while finalizing the new organizational structure for the PCC. The new executive would be constituted on the basis of inputs provided by Jakhar, four vice-presidents and other leaders.
Both leaders, Bajwa and Jakhar, later denied that there was any cold war between them.
