Election for chairmen, vice chairmen of panchayat samitis from July 27

CHANDIGARH: Elected members of Panchayat Samitis would elect their Chairmen and Vice Chairmen from July 27. Disclosing this here today Surjit Singh Rakhra, Rural Development and Panchayat Minister, said that department has instructed all Deputy Commissioners to complete this process from July 27 to August 5, 2013. He said that Chairmen' & Vice Chairmen' for 146 Panchayat Samitis would be elected during this process.

Rakhra said that this election would be completed by Deputy Commissioners or the officer who should not be below the rank of the Assistant Commissioner. The Minister said that this election would be done according to the reservation notification whose copy has been sent by the department to Deputy Commissioners.

The Minister further said that department has directed the deputy commissioners to complete the whole election process by August 5 and send the names of elected Chairmen and Vice Chairmen to the department specific Performa so that their names could be notified. He said that after the completion of this election process election for Zila Parishad Chairmen and Vice Chairmen would be held as Samiti Chairmen has the right to vote as member of Zila Parishad.
