CHANDIGARH: Elevation of Ravneet Singh Bittu, Anandpur Sahib MP as whip of the Congress parliamentary party has boosted the morale of the Punjab congress workers and it is taken as a big personal achievement for Bittu who is first time member parliament.
Bittu who was appointed president of the Punjab Youth Congress by Rahul Gandhi during his tenure as incharge of All India Youth Congress proved his qualities of leadership when he organized rallies against the Punjab Government and particularly his fight against drug addiction and drug trafficking in Punjab.
While he was serving as president of the Punjab Youth congress committee when Rahul Gandhi selected him for the Congress ticket from Anandpur Sahib Parliamentary seat and he defeated Dr. Daljeet Singh Cheema of the Akali Dal who is a close confidant of Parkash Singh Badal and an official spokesman of the party.
Bittu is again certain to get ticket for the Anandpur Sahib seat while Akali Dal is still finding a suitable candidate to contest against him.
Bittu, grandson of late chief minister Beant Singh was quite a kid when his father Swarnjit Singh died at young age. He was brought up under the shadow of Beant Singh who was a leader of iron will. So he has inherited the legacy of his grandfather.
Bittu has been able to enhance his image in the eyes of the Congress high command with his performance in the Lok Sabha and he has shown keen interested in the affairs of the functioning of the Lok Sabha and the policies of the Government.
He has been quite active in the lok sabha thus got the reward of a whip which is a rare honour for a young MP from Punjab. Punjab has produced a number of Congress stalwarts like Swaran Singh, Partap Singh Kairon and Darbara Singh who were nationalist to the core.
