CHANDIGARH: Leader of opposition in Punjab assembly Sunil Jakhar has suggested SAD-BJP leadership in state to stop shedding crocodile tears for hundreds of farmer families of Kutch area of Gujarat and convene a special session of its state assembly and amend the Bombay Tenancy and Agricultural Lands Act, 1948 to permanently resolve the matter.

Jakhar termed the steps of sending a representation of Akalis MPs to Gujarat or pursuing the matter in Apex Court as mere publicly stunts of Punjab government.

Akalis are the partner of NDA alliance hence they should have easily prevailed upon Modi Government to do on the lines of Captain Amarinder Singh as in 2004 he convened a special session of the assembly and passed the water repatriation act following which entire fertile land in Punjab especially in Malwa region was saved to become barren, stated Jakhar.

It’s the routine modus operandi on the part of SAD-BJP to initially blow up the issues and later form a political committee over it and then launch a morcha, charged Jakhar.

If Modi, who is being elevated as Prime Ministerial Candidate by NDA, could have gone to approach Ratan Tata in no time and handed over a huge cache of land to him then why not an amendment into the law could be done to save the sole source of livelihood of hundred of poor farmer families who had sacrificed their generations to convert barren land into a fertile besides safeguarding the border from the enemy, asked Jakhar.
