SHAHEED BHAGAT SINGH NAGAR: Partap Singh Bajwa President Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) today said that Badal family had ruined the economic, social and democratic character of Punjab for their vested political and business interests.
Addressing a meeting of party workers here Bajwa said that Badal family had an uncanny lust for power and money and in process to amass more power and wealth they have ruined the democratic institutions, vitiated the social atmosphere, promoted lawlessness and created an economic mess. He said that Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and his son Sukhbir Singh Badal must make an introspection of their dealings before they speak in public. “They have done irreparable loss to Punjab to fulfill their lust for power that people will realize sooner than later”, he added.
Bajwa asked Badals not to blame Congress party for their own ills. The unholy alliance between SAD and BJP has only element of corruption in common. He said that Congress party had helped Punjab with liberal funds in education, health, rural development and infrastructure building. At least three ministers of SAD and an equal number of BJP ministers and one Chief Parliamentary Secretary were found involved in embezzlement of central funds and bribery. He reminded Badal that three BJP ministers were forced to resign on corruption charges and SAD ministers have been named in scams in education department and rural development. The conduct of Chief Minister is not above board, he stated.
Bajwa said that Sukhbir Singh Badal had been raising accusing finger on Congress leaders and made childish observations on AICC Vice President Rahul Gandhi. He said that Sukhbir Badal was not aware of most of the problems of Punjab and often fumbles while replying questions during media interaction. He said Sukhbir Badal has earned a reputation of propaganda machine. He said that Sukhbir Badal had learned the art of telling lies from the Nazis who believed, “If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it”.
Bajwa said that Badal had betrayed the Sikh farmers of Gujarat and bowed to BJP pressure. He said that Gujarat Chief Minister Narender Modi had refused to oblige Badal and he was now talking of giving legal aid to farmers. Why can’t Gujarat Government withdrew its SLP filed in the Supreme Court against the High Court Decision? He said that Modi had intimidated the Sikh farmers which is a matter of serious concern. He said that Prime Minister Dr.Manmohan Singh had extended full legal and administrative help to the Sikh farmers of Gujarat.
Bajwa said playing mischief was trade mark of Badals and the people of Punjab had seen enough of it. He said that SAD-BJP government had imposed heavy taxes on people and claims that its revenue receipt has doubled in last five years. If the claims are true why the state government is not able to pay the arrears of 6th pay commission, grant Dearness Allowance installment due from January 2013 (second installment is due from July 1, 2013) and why about 4 lakh employees were not paid their salaries for the month of July. The government has not released the grants of last quarter of 2012 and first quarter of 2013 to aided schools and colleges. He said that as many as 78876 beneficiaries of Shagun scheme were not paid the money for the last three years.
PPCC President said that three important departments of education, health and rural development were running on the grants given by center government and asked the Chief Minister to explain to public where the funds collected through revenue are going?
He said that not even a single promise made by SAD-BJP in its election manifesto had been fulfilled. He said that about 65 lakh unemployed youth of Punjab had voted for the alliance in the hope that they would get Rs.1000 unemployment allowance. The widow and senior citizens were given false hope of hike in their pensions. He said that Congress would nail the lies told to people by Badal to win the elections. The people were feeling cheated, he added.
He said that alliance had hijacked the Panchayati Raj elections, the law and order machinery has collapsed, the two primary sectors of education and health are in disarray. Can Badals tell the people in which sector they have shown improvement ? Punjab has slipped to sixth place from one in the economic performance and if still Badals feel they are the ‘masiha’ of Punjab, only God can help the state, he concluded.
Others who addressed the meeting included Ravneet Singh Bittu MP, Tarlochan Singh Soond and Charanjit Singh Channi Vice Presidents, PPCC, Mrs. Guriqbal Kaur MLA, Chaudhary Santokh Singh, Amarjit Singh Samra, Ch Jagjit Singh (former ministers), Joginder Singh Chheena, Satvir Singh and Sh. Rajinder Singh Rana Randhawa.
