JALANDHAR: It seems that the PPCC chief Partap Singh Bajwa had apparently failed to nail the ongoing tiff between the two congress stalwarts of the congress Amarjit Singh Samra and Gurwinder Singh Atwal.
Both the leaders involved in mud slinging refused to cool down and instead had intensified the on going tussle leading to more troubles for the PPCC president.
The utterances made by five times Nakodar MLA Amarjit Singh Samra against the two times congress MLA from Nurmahal Gurwinder Singh Atwal for working against him in the 2012 Punjab Assembly polls put both the leaders loggerheads. The utterances were the part of the speech, Samra delivered at Nakodar rally presided over by the PPCC chief Bajwa on Friday.
Charging Atwal for betraying the party in the last Vidhan Sabha polls, Samra said that Atwal was paid a sum of Rs. 1 crore by him to work in his favour during the elections but he instead of keeping his word he supported the SAD candidate Gurpartap Singh Wadala following which he lost to the SAD candidate.
Refuting the charges, Atwal said that Samra was in the habit of making false allegations to tarnish his political image. He said that he would complain against Samra to the national leadership of the party.
Samra had demanded expulsion of Atwal from the party on the charges of betraying the party by opposing the official candidate of the party contesting from Nakodar.
Atwal said that he was a strong contender for the party ticket from Nakodar as more than 130 villages of Nurmahal assembly segment with stronghold of the congress were merged win the Nakodar constituency after delimitation of Nurmahal segment.
Meanwhile, the Income Tax department had also taken the matter seriously involving a hefty sum of Rs one crore.
The income tax authorities are seemed not in a mood to relent on the hefty financial deal. Neither Samra nor Atwal can escape liabilities for the payment of income tax on the amount handed and taken over to each other, the sources at the local Central Revenue office said.
