CHANDIGARH: The organizational set-up of the Punjab Congress is likely to be finalized by the end of the current month. An indication to this effect was given by state unit chief Partap Singh Bajwa on Monday.

Speaking to the media, Bajwa said that he had already discussed the matter with party high command and impressed upon them the need for an early decision in this regard. It may be mentioned here that the appointment of new set of office bearers of Pradesh Congress had been hanging fire for the past many months because of a host of issues including in-fighting.

Bajwa was appointed as the party chief in place of Capt Amarinder Singh in the month of March and the exercise to draw up the new list of office bearers at the state and district levels began immediately. The new PCC chief made it clear that all sections of the party would be given due representation in the new set-up. But the list which was sent to New Delhi for approval by the high command led to a new controversy with leaders like Sunil Jakhar, who heads the Congress Legislature Party in the Punjab assembly, complaining that he had not been consulted. Certain other appointments made by Bajwa in the PCC were also struck down by the high command on the grounds that they had not been cleared by New Delhi.

Bajwa has now said that he has sought appointment with the high command to discuss the issue and he was hopeful that the new set of office bearers would be in place by the end of this month.
