CHANDIGARH: The Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee appears to be trapped in a dirty war against itself with some leaders whom a statement against Raja Sansi MLA Sukh Sarkaria was attributed in a press release earlier in the day feigning ignorance about it.

It all started with Sarkaria’s letter to the Congress president Sonia Gandhi against the Punjab Congress president Partap Bajwa. He had even sought his replacement with his predecessor Capt Amarinder Singh.

While Bjawa preferred to maintain silence on the issue, a statement was issued on behalf of some legislators and office bearers criticizing Sarkaria and seeking his expulsion from the party.

Interestingly the statement carried the names of a few leaders who are otherwise believed to be close to Sarkaria. When asked by reporters, these leaders feigned ignorance about having been asked whether the statement should be issued or not.

However, the leaders were not prepared to come on record saying it will lead to unnecessary controversy. They suggested that the party should settle the issue within itself and the leaders must not wash the dirty linen in public.

Meanwhile, Punjab Congress general secretary and Kapurthala MLA Rana Gurjit Singh urged the party leaders to exercise restraint and not go public on any issue. He said, this would only damage the party. He said, the party leadership should listen to Sarkaria and address his grievances if he has any.
