LUDHIANA: T he opposition Congress on Thursday demanded the registration of an FIR against former minister and Ludhiana district planning committee chair man Hira Singh Gabria, who has been indicted for misuse of discretionary funds disbursed when he was the cabinet minister (2007-12) by an inquiry conducted by the rural development department.
“Where has the morality of the Akalis gone now? What else is the chief minister waiting for? He must act strongly if the government is serious about tackling corruption. Badal must order the registration of an FIR against Gabria, his former colleague. Gabria must face the music for his misdeeds,” demanded for mer minister Malkiat Singh Dakha.
District Congress Committee ( DCC, urban) chief Pawan Dewan said the vigilance bureau must expand the ambit of the interrogation from Ludhiana to all areas where Gabria had distributed money using his discretionary powers.
“Since Hindustan Times (October 17) has reported that funds sanctioned by Gabria for his ancestral village in Ludhiana were also misused, so the VB must interrogate all cases where funds were sanctioned by Gabria,” said Dewan.
He added that since the inquiry had established that funds were distributed for nonexisting organisations, it was a perfect case of fraud.
“Any person found involved in such fraud of public money does not have the right to hold any office, so the chief minister must sack Gabria from the post of chairman of the district planning committee,” said Congress MLA from Khanna Gurkirat Kirpal Singh, in a statement issued here.
