Mohali : Lending support to Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chief Partap Singh Bajwa, whose name has surfaced in the alleged encroachment of shamlat land recently, senior party leader Capt Amarinder Singh today termed the entire episode as a “political stunt”.
“Everybody knows certain senior leaders of the SAD-BJP Government are running all kinds of illegal businesses. Dragging Bajwa’s name in the land deal episode is nothing but a political stunt,” said the former Chief Minister.
Amarinder Singh was in the city today to attend a court hearing in the Amritsar Improvement Trust land scam case. He said levelling allegations was easy but proving these was difficult. Lashing out at the state government’s “wrong” policies, he alleged the Badals had made the state bankrupt. He said imposing property tax on the people was another example of the state government’s “loot”.
He said the state treasury was “penniless” even as the Badals were boasting of initiating projects worth crores.
“They are talking of bringing new industrial projects to the state whereas the truth is that several industries have already left the state and some are planning to do so,” he said.
Former minister Chaudhary Jagjit Singh and Subhash Chander, Director of Veer Coloniser, however, failed to appear in the court. They had requested the court to exempt them from personal appearance. The next hearing is on December 4.
