Jalandhar : On the directions of Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi to Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) chief Partap Singh Bajwa for finalising the members of the state unit, Jalandhar MP Mohinder Singh Kaypee on Saturday said the party would be appointing Booth Level Agents (BLAs).
Kaypee, who is a special invitee to the Congress Working Committee (CWC), said that ahead of the Lok Sabha elections in 2014, the BLAs working at the grassroot level would be appointed before December-end. “The party high command has already asked the state unit to make the appointments and fill the vacant seats,” he added.
The Jalandhar MP said the BLAs would reach out to the masses to create awareness about the various flagship programmes and policies of the Congress-led UPA government. Kaypee was here at the District Congress Committee (Urban) office to attend the monthly meeting of the party.
However, when asked that a section of the party workers at the grassroot level was feeling disgruntled, Kaypee evaded a direct reply and said, “The party is committed to promote the party workers and the BLAs would be entrusted with the responsibility of reaching out to the electorate.”
It is pertinent to mention here that the Gandhi scion had held a meeting with Bajwa and CLP leader Sunil Jakhar in Delhi and asked them to finalise the new PCC team within a week.
Congress leader Gurkanwal Kaur was also present during the meeting and said the party was geared up for the Lok Sabha polls. “We would announce the appointment of BLAs soon,” she added.
Earlier, district Congress unit president Arun Walia maintained that the ruling SAD-BJP combine was in trouble following the rising popularity of Bajwa. “People in the state are well aware of the sand mafia, drug mafia and liquor mafia ruling the state under the patronage of the SAD-BJP alliance. The Akalis are deliberately singling out Bajwa in the land case, so as to divert the attention of people from the public issues,” he added.
