NEW DELHI: The Aam Aadmi Party ( AAP ) on Tuesday announced that it will reach out to Delhiites to decide on government formation in Delhi with the Congress’ support.
Feedback will be gathered till Sunday in the form of individual letters, centralised SMSs, inputs on social networking sites and the party’s website before a decision is reached on Monday. AAP announced that it will send out 25 lakh letters inviting people’s views and also set up a centralised mobile number to receive one-word opinion (yes or no) through SMS.
AAP has been accused of pushing the Capital towards President’s rule in recent weeks by both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress.
Manish Sisodia, party spokesperson, said if people voted in favour of forming a government, “AAP will take the risk and form a government keeping in mind that there can be re-election any time”.
The BJP-SAD, with 32 seats in the 70-member Delhi assembly, has already declined to form the government. AAP has 28 seats while the Congress has 8 seats.
The move came after a meeting of the party’s political affairs committee that discussed the Congress’ response to a letter written by AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal who had sought the views of the Congress and the BJP on 18 key issues. While the BJP refused to reply, the Congress replied on Monday saying no support was needed on 16 issues as they were administrative in nature and assured AAP of its support on the other 2 issues.
