Cong workers rally against property tax

Sangrur : Workers and supporters of the Congress today held protest rallies at Bhawanigarh and Malerkotla against the imposition of property tax by the SAD-BJP government. Subhash Grover, district president of the Congress, said he had prepared a schedule for holding protests against property tax in different blocks of the district.

He said after Bhawanigarh and Malerkotla, protests would be held in Dhuri and Ahmedgarh on December 24, Sangrur, Dirba and Moonak on December 27 and Sunam, Longowal and Lehragaga on December 30.

At Bhawanigarh, the protesters took out a rally through bazaars and staged a dharna in front of the municipal council office. They raised slogans against the state government and demanded withdrawal of property tax. Former MLA Surinderpal Singh Sibia flayed the government for burdening people with fresh taxes.

At Malerkotla, a demonstration was held. Block Congress leaders, including Kulwinder Singh Jhaner and Farooq Ansari, urged the government to withdraw property tax. A memorandum was submitted to the Malerkotla administration.
