Chandigarh : Punjab Congress president Partap Singh Bajwa today said that instead of creating 10 lakh new jobs, as promised by the SAD in its election manifesto, about 10 lakh skilled and unskilled workers had been retrenched.

Bajwa said that with 18,770 industrial units shut and many on the verge of closure, almost 10 lakh people had been rendered jobless.

Bajwa said the Chief Minister and the Deputy CM were trying to camouflage the gloomy scenario in the state. The Progressive Punjab Summit and now the Agriculture Summit (from February 16 to 19) were mere gimmicks to divert the people's attention from the real issues.

He challenged the SAD to name a single project set up by any NRI, despite a series of NRI sammelans.
