CHANDIGARH: Punjab Congress chief Partap Singh Bajwa on Thursday said that half of the MoUs shown as signed during the investment summit already existed and the firms concerned signed only the ‘expressions of interest’ (EoI) during the event.

Citing documents procured under the RTI Act, Bajwa said, “Of the total MoUs that the government claimed to have signed worth investment of Rs 66,936 crore, the MoUs for Rs 31,847 crore were about the existing housing projects.”

He said the companies like Infosys in the documents marked as EoI have mentioned that they would invest Rs 500 crore in the next 10 years “if f acilities are provided to them on their own terms and conditions. Some of the EoIs had benami share of Badal and Majthia families,” Bajwa alleged.

Bajwa said Sukhbir Badal was elated at the participation of two IT companies — Bharti Airtel and Reliance group — that have committed an investment of Rs 4,000 crore and Rs 1,300 crore, respectively in infrastructure sector. These companies, he said, had got panIndia licence for laying their underground optical fibre cable network and 4G expansion.
