Chandigarh :Raising the issue of the ongoing conflict between Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar over the Operation Bluestar Memorial inside Golden Temple, Capt Amarinder Singh said, “It was characteristic of Badal to run away from responsibility and put on others what he could not defend himself.”
Referring to the Chief Minister describing Makkar as a “liar” for saying that he had taken him (Badal) into confidence before going ahead with the decision to construct the Operation Bluestar Memorial in Golden Temple complex, Amarinder said, “For Badal, everyone else except himself was a liar. Earlier, he was describing me as a liar and now he has been describing the SGPC president as a liar.”
Asserting that even in this case Badal was speaking an “absolute lie”, Amarinder pointed out, “Badal is on record having defended the construction of the Bluestar memorial when people raised objections to it. Badal went to the extent of saying that it was a gurdwara and not any memorial.”
In a statement issued here, Amarinder asked as how could it be possible that the SGPC, which is “controlled” by the SAD, whose patron is Badal, would have taken such an important decision without his (Badal’s) knowledge? “Moreover, Makkar was Badal’s appointee and it can be anybody’s guess as how much liberty he may have given to him (Makkar) in running the SGPC and that too in taking such important decisions,” he stated.
