CHANDIGARH: The Punjab Congress on Thursday termed deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal as the “biggest liar” for his statement that AAP candidate HS Phoolka had been charging fee to contest the cases related to the 1984 killings of Sikhs.
Pointing out that Sukhbir’s assertions came out as baseless, senior Congress leader Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa said, “Sukhbir did not do anything for justice to Sikh riot victims, except exploiting the issue for political gains.”
Reacting to Sukhbir’s statement that he had a much higher stature than Phoolka’s, Randhawa said Sukhbir was in politics because of his father Parkash Singh Badal, who “committed political murder of all Akali stalwarts to pave way for his son’s future. Sukhbir has no role in any Sikh movement or for Sikh community”.
The Congress leader said the senior Badal had sent his son abroad when Punjab was facing the brunt of terrorism.
The Congress MLA from Dera Baba Nanak said that as the elections were approaching, the SAD president was in a bid to politically exploit Operation Bluestar and the anti-Sikh riots issue, which the Congress would not allow. “Sukhbir is making baseless statements to discredit Phoolka for his fight for the 1984 riot victims,” he remarked, challenging Sukhbir to come clean on the issue.
