Jalandhar: Blaming Bholath MLA Bibi Jagir Kaur of indulging in unconstitutional practice of garnering publicity, Punjab Congress spokesperson Sukhpal Khaira on Tuesday demanded criminal penal action against her for usurping Rs 10 lakh of MPLAD funds of Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Santosh Chaudhary.

Chaudhary, who is the sitting MP from Hoshiarpur had announced two community centres to be built in the memory of 20 accident victims who had died in a road accident, which took place at Manguwal-Chintpurni Road in Hoshiarpur on October 10 last year. The MP had sanctioned Rs 5 lakh each for the construction of two community centres at Bajajan and Fatehpur, which falls under Hoshiarpur.

The Congress spokesperson alleged that Kaur, along with her son-in-law Yuvraj Bhupinder Singh, who was the chairman of Zila Parishad Kapurthala, not just encroached upon the Rs 10 lakh funds of Chaudhary but also erected two foundation stones at Bajajan and Fatehpur.

A complaint in this regard had been made by Chaudhary to the Minister of State for Statistics & Programme Implementation, Srikant Kumar Jena. Chaudhary would be visiting the two villages on Tuesday for the formal foundation stone laying ceremony.

In her complaint, Chaudhary stated, “It was on March 3 that I was informed that the foundation stone was laid by Bibi Jagir Kaur whereas MPLAD funds were contributed by me. I am unable to understand as to how all the concerned officials dared to get the foundation stone laid by her.”
