Chandigarh: The Congress on Wednesday flayed the SAD-BJP government for non-payment of salaries to the state government staff, saying the functioning of government departments was paralysed, causing problems to the people.
Punjab Congress chief Partap Singh Bajwa expressed his solidarity with the state government employees who have allegedly been not paid their salaries for the month of February, and hit out at the Parkash Singh Badal-led government for “withholding payment” of salaries, pension, dues, medical bills and loan from Provident Fund.
In a statement here, he said employees in almost every department were protesting for their demands for months together and the unrest among them had reached its flashpoint.
He said that functioning of most of government departments was paralysed, causing problems to the common people.
He slammed Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal for making false claims of improvement in the financial position of the government.
Bajwa said that SAD-BJP combine government was selling government properties to increase its revenue receipts, but the money was being wasted on non-productive exercises whereas no corporate house invested in the state.
Bajwa said the debt of Punjab would cross the mark of one lakh crores by the end of March 31 and the Punjab government has been taking overdraft from RBI over and above its credit limit.
