Amritsar: Forgetting groupism in Congress for once, party leaders of urban and rural areas of Amritsar constituency met the Congress candidate, Captain Amarinder Singh on Monday. Amarinder announced that he will visit Amritsar on March 28.
The leaders who attended the meeting under Amarinder Singh included O P Soni, Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria, Raj Kumar Verka, Prof Darbari Lal, Harjinder Singh Thekedar, Navdeep Goldy, Jasbir Singh Dimpa, Harpartap Singh Ajnala, Dinesh Bassi, Vikas Soni, Rajeev Bhagat, Gurjeet Aujla, Sukhjinder Raj Singh, Lalli Majithia, Surinder Singh Kathunangal, Shalinderjit Singh Shelly, Sardul Singh, Ranjit Singh Chhajjalwadi, Tarsem Singh, Sunil Dutti, Joginderpal Dhingra, Karamjit Singh Rintu, Ashwani Kumar, Jugal Kishore Sharma, Major Rajbir Singh, Lucky, Mamata Dutta and Ratna. All the leaders resolved to work for the victory of Amarinder from the constituency with record margin.
During his visit, Amarinder will pay obeisance at the Golden Temple, Durgiana Temple along with paying rich tributes to the martyrs at Jallianwala Bagh. He will be received by the leaders and workers on the outskirts of the city and later he will move towards the Golden Temple and Durgiana Temple.
The Congress party will also organise a road show to mark the arrival of Capt Amarinder Singh to the holy city for his campaigning.
Congress MLA Rajkumar Verka said that Amarinder passed direction to the party leaders about his election campaign in the constituency. He said that after his candidature there is enthusiasm among the party leaders, workers and BJP candidate, Arun Jaitley is going to have a tough time here.
Rajkumar refuted the allegations of groupism among the Congress leaders of the constituency and said, “We are united now and will work effectively in polls”. Another Congress MLA, Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria, who was also seeking ticket from Amritsar said that groupism is a matter of past and now they all belong to “Captain’s group”.
He said that all the leaders will work jointly and the Congress will register its victory in the elections.
