Capt for acting PPCC chief till elections

Patiala: The District Returning Officer of Patiala parliamentary constituency has issued a notice to Sanaur MLA Lal Singh accusing him of having used his government house (5 A Rajbaha Road) for political purposes and thus violating the model code of conduct notified by the Election Commission of India.
Deputy Commissioner G K Singh in the notice sent to Lal Singh, on Tuesday, said that the video recording of the proceedings revealed that the Congress flags were hoisted at the government house and a political meeting was held while he had sought permission from the sub-divisional magistrate only to hold a simple meeting.
He said that the MLA must clarify the situation within 24 hours and if his reply was not found to be satisfactory the matter would be brought to the notice of the Chief Electoral Officer of Punjab and the Election Commission of India. DP
Former chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh, here on Tuesday, underlined the need to have an acting president of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) since most of the senior leaders of the party, including PPCC chief Partap Singh Bajwa were busy contesting the elections.
He suggested the name of sitting Sanaur MLA Lal Singh for the post.
He was interacting with mediapersons after kicking off the election campaign of his wife and Patiala Congress candidate Preneet Kaur by addressing partymen at the residence of sitting Congress legislator from Sanaur LalSingh.
A large number of supporters of Lal Singh were present on the occasion where Congress nominee Preneet Kaur and her son Raninder Singh were also present. Surjit Singh Dhiman, a former Congress legislator, who had announced to contest parliamentary election from the Sangrur constituency as an Independent was also present. He announced on the occasion that we would not enter the electoral fray.
Capt Amarinder Singh said that he was willing to campaign in favour of PPCC chief Partap Singh Bajwa in the Gurdaspur segment. He also volunteered to campaign for Manpreet Singh Badal in the Bathinda constituency, where he is pitted against sitting Member of Parliament Harsimrat Kaur Badal.
The former chief minister retorting to the charge of Revenue Minister Bikramjit Singh Majithia that he was not attending the Punjab Vidhan Sabha session regularly, quipped that the Punjab Assembly sessions were too small and lasted three to four days.
The veteran Congress leader who is pitted against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) heavyweight Arun Jaitley in Amritsar said that he was sure of his win. He said that the inquiry officer in the Ghanaur incident where liquor was distributed by Akali workers was biased. He also accused Chief Electoral Officer V K Singh of being partial towards the Akali Dal.
