Chandigarh : Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) candidate from Ludhiana MS Ayali has been caught on tape threatening government officials, “tussi lokan di churi tight kar deyanga, je tussi kisse ne vi Bains da kamm kita...”

The Election Commmission of India (ECI) has sought a detailed inquiry into the incident.

The Akali candidate is an MLA from Dakha. Simarjit Singh Bains, another sitting MLA, is contesting the Lok Sabha seat as an Independent. Bains sent the tape to the ECI which referred the matter to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Punjab. The CEO has asked the district electoral officer and the Ludhiana police to conduct an investigation.

Sources said that Ayali, in his reply to the police, maintained that the recording had been tampered with and that the meeting was not related to the Lok Sabha elections.

“The reply was sent to the Chief Election Office that has now sought a more detailed inquiry,” said an official.

Bains says he will furnish a copy of the original recording to the ECI.

Meanwhile, the CEO has asked the district election officer of Amritsar to send the video-recording of the election rally addressed by Revenue Minister Bikram Singh Majithia, proclaiming that he would “twist Capt Amarinder Singh’s neck”.
