The former Punjab Assembly Deputy Speaker, Bir Devinder Singh on Tuesday formally returned to the Congress after about five years. He was accompanied by hundreds of his supporters at the Punjab Congress Bhawan here.
Welcoming him on his homecoming, the state party president, Partap Singh Bajwa said Bir Devinder Singh was a very good orator and his services would be fully utilised in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. The party would take full advantage of his vast experience as he had earlier served the party in various capacities. He said it was nice
that Bir Devinder was back to the party fold as it was better late than never.
Bir Devinder narrated what he called as his “harrowing experience” with the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), which he had joined for some time after leaving his mother party. “Akali leadership was in the habit of humiliating leaders after inviting them to join the party and no self-respecting person could tolerate such atrocious behaviour,” he alleged.
He assured Bajwa that he would serve the party with total dedication and renewed commitment.
He said he had realised that it was only the Congress, which accorded due respect to the leaders and
cadres alike without any distinction and it was the party of the masses.
Also present to welcome him were the former Chief Minister, Rajinder Kaur Bhattal and the senior party leader and former Minister, Lal Singh.
